Shared tools lower the barrier to robotics
Hugging Face’s LeRobot brought pretrained models, demonstration datasets, and development tools into a shared ecosystem. Robotics had fewer open resources than language or vision research. Making them easier to find and reuse reduced the amount each team needed to build before it could begin experimenting.

Humanoids learn from human demonstrations
HumanPlus combined a shadowing system with imitation learning. A camera let a person control a humanoid’s whole body, and demonstrations then trained autonomous skills. The report described tasks learned with up to 40 demonstrations, while the underlying control policy also relied on motion data and simulation. The small demonstration count was not the system’s entire training budget.

Autonomous driving reaches more customers
Waymo reported 100,000 paid trips per week in the US in August 2024, and Wayve raised a $1.05 billion Series C. These were meaningful signs of deployment and financing after years of disappointment. They represented different business models and milestones, rather than a single measure of autonomous-driving readiness.
